How do I change the blade of the Zero?

The only tools needed for a blade change are your hands and the knife.

Hold down the carriage when removing the blade and pull from the top side of the blade to shear the magnetic force holding it in place.

Please take a look at the picture at the top of the page.

What blades are compatible with the Zero-G?

  • Workpro SK5 (61 mm)
  • Dewalt Carbide Edge
  • Rapid Edge Serrated
  • Milwaukee
  • Titan
  • Berkling SK2h Black
  • Jet SK5 Titanium Coated
  • Selected generic SK5 blades
  • STANLEY Utility Knife Blades (11-800L)

What oil should I use for my Zero?

We recommend using KPL lightweight oil, but any lightweight knife oil or mineral oil should work.

As the viscosity of the oil increases, the fidget factor may be reduced. In other words, heavier oils can dampen the clicking action, but the knife should still function properly. If you notice that the carriage becomes sluggish, remove some of the excess oil and test the function again.

  • Lubrication should only be performed when necessary or after a deep clean.
  • Lubrication points include both rail mating surfaces, the walls of the carriage, the pin, and the key.

Can I use the Zero if I am left-handed?

Of course. You can use both the Zero and the Zero-G if you're left handed.

Does the slider on the Zero & Zero-G return on its own?

No, the slider is manual and does not automatically return on its own. Magnets help guide it back into place, and over time it may move back slightly due to gravity or motion as the knife breaks in.

My Zero is wearing at the tip. Is this normal?

Yes, this is normal and nothing to worry about.
Slight wear at the tip can occur due to natural variations in SK5 steel. This type of wear is expected and does not affect the performance or functionality of the blade.

My blade is stuck. I can't get the blade to pop out. What should I do?

If the blade is interfacing with the interior wall of your knife, you can take another utility blade and carefully insert it into the mouth of your zero, but below the blade that is getting stuck.
From this point, slide your lid forward very carefully. Your spare blade will act as a ramp, guiding your shorter blade out over the knife's mouth.

Zero weight & dimensions

The Zero weighs 2.099oz or 59.51 grams.

Closed: 68mm length

Open: 88mm length

These dimensions apply for all Zero patterns/finishes.

How do I change the blade of the Zero-G?

The only tools needed for a blade change are your hands and the knife. If you've changed blades on the Zero knife, the process is almost the same.

Hold down the carriage when removing the blade and pull from the top side of the blade to shear the magnetic force holding it in place.

The Zero-G carriage is winged and runs on its own rail, so the carriage is held in place when removing the blade. You can apply pressure to the carriage in the same way as with the Zero knife using your finger for added security.

  • Workpro SK5 (61 mm)
  • Dewalt Carbide Edge
  • Rapid Edge Serrated
  • Milwaukee
  • Titan
  • Berkling SK2h Black
  • Jet SK5 Titanium Coated
  • Selected generic SK5 blades
  • STANLEY Utility Knife Blades (11-800L)
  • FISKARS
  • US Made Blades

What's the tool that comes with the Zero-G and how do I use it?

The tool included with your Zero-G is the Clip Removal Tool. Using this tool, you can remove the flush pivot pocket clip on your Zero-G.

We don't recommend using it outside of maybe a deep clean or removing your clip for a new color, replacement, or repair!
If you plan to change the blade, please refer to our informational videos first to save yourself time and money.

Why does my Zero-G randomly go into blade-change mode when I’m using it?

What you’re experiencing isn’t a defect. It’s related to how the mechanism interacts with very tight tolerances and the lid design.

On some units, the lid has a slightly more aggressive chamfer. Combined with the longer slider on the Smooth Operator, this can make it easier to unintentionally trigger the blade-change function when forward pressure is applied, especially if the slider doesn’t fully return on its own and is pushed forward again.

This can feel like the knife is “randomly” entering blade-change mode, but it’s actually reacting to subtle pressure differences during use.

A few key things to keep in mind:

  • The knife is designed for a forward → backward motion, not repeated forward tapping.
  • If the slider doesn’t fully return automatically, manually bringing it back into place is normal.
  • Small tolerance differences (we’re talking hair-width precision) can slightly change how the mechanism feels from unit to unit.

Does the slider on the Zero & Zero-G return on its own?

No, the slider is manual and does not automatically return on its own. Magnets help guide it back into place, and over time it may move back slightly due to gravity or motion as the knife breaks in.
