The Zero Utility Knife
Born in Sevierville, Tennessee, the Zero Utility Knife embodies American craftsmanship and mechanical ingenuity. Designed by engineer Michael Sayers of Rivery Manufacturing, it reimagines the everyday utility knife with a seamless, screwless body and an addictive slide mechanism that feels like pure precision at work. Crafted in the USA with uncompromising attention to detail, the Zero Utility Knife is where innovation meets design.
Ignore my previous review since it was applied to the wrong product and even at that there was some user error involved so the complaints stated in that review are simply no longer valid.. Apologies to RIVERY for posting incorrect review.
I have a couple of the original zero knives and they’ve been very nice. Looked forward to the zero – G after the hype. I received it yesterday and the economics are great compared to the original, especially since I have larger hands and longer fingers and operating the small knife has always been a challenge to get fingers cramped into space to operate it. So overall on the zero g engineering and assembly as usual but the pocket clip does come into the picture. With the original knife, they just disappear into a watch pocket on a pair of jeans and it’s securely held in there. Not so much with the zero – G which extends out from the watchpocket to the point where it’s a little bit insecure. However, when you go to deploy the otherwise clever looking pocket clip, unfortunately it simply does not work. You can deploy it and it looks nice and you can pull it open with your finger and clip it onto a pocket. But if you try to push down on the lever to spring, it open like you normally would with a similar clamp on other knives, the clip simply closes and disappears into the frame. So that’s pretty annoying. Yes it looks very nice but if it doesn’t work looks really aren’t all that important. Also, I got the model with the smooth operator actuator, which comes with a perfectly smooth back housing, which is a little bit suboptimal. If this model came with a grenade grip on the top and bottom, that would be ideal, and I would simply overlook the clip as something I would never use. As it is on the current model clearly I’ll never use the clip because it doesn’t function in a reasonable manner. It would seem that the company could come up with a clever design to use a traditional spring clip that fits into a machine slot and locks in place while still avoiding any usage of screwed fasteners. I’d be interested to see if that becomes available on that form.
